Right, we're starting off your Sunday with some positive news! 2020 has obviously been a difficult one for us all so hopefully we can now rain down positive news from here...
The good news is that Ocean cruising is back! Now before you get too carried away these are baby steps but a sure sign that things are definitely turning.
Hurtigruten look set to launch it all with a 3 night cruise from Bergen on the 16th June! This luxury expedition and coastal cruise line will the follow with 5 more sailings in June across 4 ships starting with the newly made over MS Finnmarken. With a capacity of up to 919 passengers this is a significant step forward for Ocean Cruising.
SeaDream Yacht Club will also focus on Norway with 7 night voyages starting on the 20th June from Bergen. This will develop from the 27th June to 7 night options from Oslo taking in popular Norwegian ports such as Olden, Flam and Bergen of course with 12 night options up to Tromso also an option. These are small 'yachts' not ships carrying a maximum of 112 passengers.
Luxury French cruise line Ponant have announced they will resume on the 4th July with 5 sailings starting in France. A couple of very interesting points here is that these sailings are not limited to French passengers AND these sailings will also take in some ports in Italy with stops in Portofino and Sardinia planned.
Ok, so these are not Mega Ships sailing around the biggest Mediterranean ports but add to this the news that Viking are looking at the possibility of British Isles cruises AND read between the lines that MSC Cruises latest suspension extension is just 3 weeks... which might be a sign!!
Dust off the passport, blow the cobwebs off the cases and have them on standby... things are looking up! :-)
