One of the greatest misconceptions about cruising is this idea that you'll be 'stuck' on a ship, that you'll be bored, that there won't be anything to do and that you'll be trapped! We can guarantee that if you pick the right cruise line / the right ship for you that you'll be anything but bored and quite frankly you'll have to be dragged from the ship!!
Of course any day onboard can be as hectic or as restful as you want it to be, it's entirely up to you. If you want a day relaxing on a lounger, a spa treatment, dipping in and out of the pool, reading a book and having a cocktail then you can. Absolutely! All day every day if you like!
But if you want something different, you are concerned about what you're going to do ALL DAY (bearing in mind most 7 night itineraries have 4, 5, 6 days in port then how about this for a sample day on board the newly revamped and magic Royal Caribbean Independence of the Seas:
7.30am: Early Riser? Start the day gently with a complimentary class in the gym such as Vitality Stretch, Yoga session or Fab Abs. You can use some of the equipment there too.
8.30am: Breakfast - having worked up an appetite then try the Windjammer buffet or the Sapphire Dining Room for a sit down service
9.30am: Bit too full for activity yet so catch a seminar at sea or a destinations lecture.
10.30am: Right, let the fun commence...start with a session on Flowrider, only with Royal Caribbean! Expect to get wet!!
11am: You're already wet, take on the duo of Water Slides - if you're brave enough - The Perfect Storm then relax in the pool or Jacuzzi!
12 noon: Too much sun? Don't want to relax on deck with the poolside band then grab a refreshing drink and head indoors to the Promenade for a spot of shopping or some free gaming lessons in the casino.
1pm: LUNCH! Where to go is the question - Fish and Ships is an option out on the open deck or maybe come inside to Windjammer or Cafe Promenade?
2pm: Lets take the activities up a notch - keep your hand down at the Art Auction as you let lunch settle or take part in a dance class - ballroom not your thing? Try Line dancing!
3pm: Continue the culture, take in an ice show if there's one on or maybe, if it's not show day you can try it out for your self in Indy's very own ice rink! (Which also turns into a nightclub or Laser Tag venue)
4pm: Eyes down - it's bingo time and your chance to win a pot of money with which to pay off that bar bill, that shopping spree or treat yourself to a spa treatment, maybe even a shore excursion! 2 little ducks, quack quack, Number 34.... ;-) LOL
5pm: Time for the finest milkshake at land or sea in Johnny Rockets before taking on the Sports Trivia quiz in Playmakers. While there how about a game of pool or catching up on the sports on show on the many big screens!
6pm: Right, quick, go get ready for the evening ahead
6.30pm: Evening drinks and a pre dinner showing of the full production of Grease the Musical - if you went to see it in the West End then you'll be looking at anything from €80 upwards....choose a seat on the front row of the theatre, say it's the one that you want and sit back and enjoy!!
8.30pm: Must be time for dinner - the waiters are waiting to serve you in the main dining room but if you fancy something a little special try the Izumi Sushi & Hibachi Teppanyaki restaurant or steakhouse Chops Grille among others! MMM!!
10pm: There's entertainment all over the ship with singers, bands, pianists and DJ's all over the ship with the party starting all over the promenade deck. Unless you want to start it yourself in which case head for the Karaoke in the Star Lounge!!
11pm: Lets have a street party!! The promenade deck is decorated and bouncing as DJ's and dancers have a themed street party....rock Britannia is a popular one with all the classic songs you know and love!
12pm: Still going? There's some adult comedy on in the theatre and sure the late night DJ has just started in Studio B...where hours earlier you were standing in ice skates or party band Pulse are just getting going in the Star Lounge...
2am: Are you not finished? No? Peckish...ah then you and many many others will be floating around Sorrento's serving mighty fine pizza or the 24 hour Cafe Promenande for those midnight snacks...who knew a slice of pizza and a chocolate eclair could look and taste so good together on 1 plate...
2.30, 3.00, 3.30 am whatever....fall into bed...
7am.....BZZZ BZZZZ BZZZZ....Thats your wake up call because it's port day and you need to go visit the sites and sounds of Barcelona or Florence or Bruges ....but wait...you've not played Lazer Tag, you've not tried Mini Golf, movies on the big screen, SKYPAD, barely played any of the games in Playmakers, tasted Sugar Beach and Ben & Jerry's, there are still lounges we've not been into, we didn't experience the full Johnny Rocket singing and dancing experience...or seen the other shows...or took on the Escape Room (formerly the chapel!!) or. even sat in a deck chair....you get the picture....we're touching the surface...oh, and whats more, this is far from one of the biggest ships out there....
Bored? What do you think? Whatever you do will be, magic on our Indy, Que Sera Sera....
