SHIP VISIT - CELEBRITY ECLIPSE RETURNS TO IRELAND FOR THE LAST TIME IN 2018 - WE SPENT THE DAY ONBOA
She will go down in history as the 1st cruise ship from the 1st major cruise line to homeport in Dublin but yesterday Celebrity Eclipse came to Dublin for the last time this year. We went on board to see what the thousands who sailed on her this year had to enjoy.
WHAT WE LIKE:
There's a lot to love on board Eclipse. There's a lovely feel, the ship is beautifully decorated and really lives up to the Modern Luxury tagline that Celebrity preach...it's a perfect description as thats exactly what it is.
There are all the things you can expect of a large ship; large pool deck, theatre, plenty of bars, restaurants and lounges, casino, shopping. Then there are lots of elements that you wouldn't necessarily expect - the half acre of fresh grass looking infinitely greener than the grass in your back garden. Or how about the living tree hanging in the atrium? The partnership with Apple which has resulted in the iLounge, the 4D restaurant experience provided by Le Petit Chef (check our FB page for the video) and even a cinema.
Throw in food so good that Celebrity showcase it at the 'Taste of' festivals across UK & Ireland and wonderful service and you're practically guaranteed an amazing time onboard.
THINGS TO CONSIDER:
Which class are you? Some will really like it, some won't like it so much but Celebrity perhaps more than anyone have different tiers and different access depending on the class of stateroom booked. Aqua Class? Then you have your own healthy eating restaurant called Blu which is exclusive to you (not even 'higher' classes can use Blu). Suite class have access to Michael's Lounge and their own restaurant Luminae and on other ships their own retreat. It's just something to be aware of...
Celebrity Cruise fares will never be the very cheapest on the market, after all this is 5-star luxury! That's not to say there isn't value, particularly with the current 'free drinks & free WiFi promotion' however there are still several areas you'll need to pay for. Every cruise line has speciality restaurants, thats fine, but the price per head of €45-€55 dollars seems more than most cruise lines. Sushi on 5 is A La Carte so you pay the menu prices and the wine bar Cellar Masters is not included in the drinks package...
Again, these costs can add up and you may feel that if you don't partake in some of these elements you're missing out...it's just 'food' for thought!
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT:
These are exciting times for Celebrity. In the immediate term there are still 2 weeks to go on their Free Drinks & Free WiFi offer with great value still available. Celebrity are the only major cruise line offering free drinks at this moment in time so it's worth considering.
In December we have the arrival of the brand new Celebrity Edge, a revolutionary new ship with incredible new to the industry features such as the Infinite Balcony and the Magic Carpet. This is quickly followed by Celebrity Flora, the first purpose built expedition ship for the incredible Galapagos Islands where every stateroom is a suite with a personal butler.
Want more? How about the $500million Celebrity Revolution programme which will see the fleet completely revitalised over the next 4 years by over 500 architects, designers and engineers led by Kelly Hoppen MBE...
Then finally, Celebrity return to Dublin in 2019 with a mini homeporting season on Celebrity Reflection repeating the 5 sailing maiden season we've just had! We love it!
It's all happening at Celebrity...it's time you got onboard to see what you're missing!
