CRUISE INDUSTRY LEADS WAY ACROSS TRAVEL INDUSTRY IN EMBRACING LGBT DIVERSITY - HAPPY PRIDE TO EVERYO
When it comes to celebrating diversity and supporting the LGBT community (both passengers & staff) there is no doubt that cruise lines lead the way in the travel industry.
From LGBT meet ups and cocktail parties on mainstream cruises to fully chartered LGBT cruises from the likes of Atlantis Events (predominantly male) or Olivia (exclusively for lesbians) there really is something for everyone! In fact most major cruise lines frequently host LGBT charter cruises including the likes of Royal Caribbean and Holland America!
If there’s 1 cruise line that leads the way though, and this tends to be reflected in the amount of awards they win in this area is Celebrity Cruises. Again it’s not just the little things such as the first night welcome party held for LGBT guest, its events like the recent Pride Party At Sea!
On the 5th June on 9 ships across the fleet which included the Celebrity Eclipse while in Cobh, Celebrity held the largest ever Pride Party at sea. With ships in Ireland, Alaska, Germany, Bermuda, Cozumel and more this was a world wide event which included an official pride flag raising ceremony, a full moon white party on top deck, pride party themed cocktails, live music, speciality performances and entertainment and much much more! The party finished with the flagship party which included special guest appearances on Celebrity Summit in Bermuda.
Whats more, since 2017 Celebrity have been able to legally perform same sex marriages on board with ceremonies officiated by the ships Captain. Due to it's registry in Malta it has avoided some of the difficulties recently experienced by Carnival due to it's registration in Bermuda.
If you want another opinion then you don't have to look far as Celebrity's website contains an endorsement from Tour America's Managing Director and Everywoman Woman of the Year Mary McKenna who states:
"I was on a Celebrity Cruise recently with my wife and son. I think Celebrity, for us, is very embracing of gay families. I knew I'd feel very comfortable, and I did"
It all goes to show that yet again no matter what you're looking for from your cruise and we know it sounds cliched but it's true...there really is a cruise to suit everyone.
Whatever you're up to this weekend, stay safe and enjoy this incredible weather!
