We all know that most cruise lines will offer drinks packages but did you know that many cruise lines allow you to bring a small amount of alcohol on board at the start of your cruise or even along the way at the various ports?

We break down exactly what each cruise lines 'Bring Your Own Beverage' policy is!

Azamara Club Cruises

BYOB Policy

  • You may bring your own favourite liquor, beer or wine for private consumption in your suite or stateroom.

  • If you wish to consume your liquor, beer or wine in any shipboard restaurant, bar or dining venue, each bottle is subject to a corkage fee of $10.

  • If you are given a bottle of wine that was purchased from Azamara's Bon Voyage Gift selection, then no corkage fee will apply.

  • If you are given a bottle of wine from an outside vendor and/or travel professional, and the bottle was not purchased through Azamara's Bon Voyage selection, then a $10 corkage fee will apply if the wine is consumed in the dining room or other public area.

  • Alcoholic beverages purchased from onboard shops will be stored by the ship and delivered to guest staterooms on the last day of the sailing. Alcohol will not be delivered to any guest under the age of 21.

Corkage Fees

  • If consuming in public space then corkage fees of $10 per bottle apply.

    • NB: All corkage fees will be added to your onboard account.

Carnival Cruises

BYOB Policy

  • On embarkation day, a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages (i.e., sparkling water, sodas, energy drinks, juice, and milk), packaged in cans or cartons, may be brought on board and must be in the guest's carry-on luggage. A small quantity is considered a maximum of 12 sealed, unopened cans/cartons of 12 ounces each or less, per person.

  • Guests are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages on board with the following exception - at the beginning of the cruise during embarkation day only, guests (21 years of age and older) may bring one 750 ml bottle of sealed/unopened wine or champagne, per person, in their carry-on luggage. Outside this exception, all liquor, beer, other forms of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited in both carry-on and checked luggage and such items will be confiscated and discarded and no compensation will be provided.

  • Guests sailing with us on back-to-back cruises are entitled to bring the same quantity as stated in this policy, per cruise. The additional quantities will be stored for safekeeping at the start of the first cruise and will be given to the guest as each following cruise begins.

Celebrity Cruises

BYOB Policy

  • Guests are not permitted to bring alcoholic beverages onboard; with the exception of embarkation day when guests are permitted to bring onboard with them up to two (2) bottles of wine (which are subject to a corkage fee) per stateroom.

  • Security may inspect containers (including water bottles, soda bottles, mouthwash, canteens, etc.) at any time and will dispose of alcohol concealed in such containers.

  • Alcoholic beverages that are purchased from onboard shops or in ports of call (which must be presented to security upon re-boarding), will be secured by ship's personnel. Alcohol secured by ship's personnel will be returned to guests just prior to the conclusion of their cruise vacation.

Costa Cruises

BYOB Policy

  • Company Health and Safety standards for guests and crew members strictly prohibit any kind of drink or food onboard in hand or in cabin luggage.

  • Any food or drink brought to embarkation will not be admitted onboard and kept at the pier to be returned when the ship returns to the embarkation port.

  • Local regional products purchased (in keeping with customs laws) during excursions and port visits will be kept in custody by ship officers and upon arrival at the final port, will be released to the guest at disembarkation.

Cruise & Maritime

BYOB Policy

  • It is not permitted to bring alcohol aboard at embarkation and any alcohol purchases made ashore during the cruise should be handed to Security on re-joining the ship.  These will be returned upon disembarkation.

  • It should be noted that liquor and tobacco products purchased in onboard shops will only be delivered to your cabin on the last day of the cruise.

Crystal Cruises

Cunard Cruises

BYOB Policy

  • All bottles of wine or champagne brought on board by guests for consumption in any of the ship's restaurants, bars or lounges, are subject to a corkage fee.

  • Please be advised that guests are allowed to bring on board one bottle per person for special occasions.

  • Groups who want to supply their own wine for wine tasting seminars or for consumption in any of the restaurants, bars or lounges will be charged a corkage fee.

  • If a bottle of wine/champagne has been bought for you (on board) as a gift, please ensure you carry the gift card with you to avoid having the corkage charge applied to your on board account.You are able to purchase duty free tobacco and take home liquor on board during qualifying itineraries

  • Any liquor purchased on board is for take home only.

Corkage Fees

  • If consuming in public space then corkage fees of $20 or $25 per bottle apply. (Cunard quote both prices but we'll clarify)

    • NB: All corkage fees will be added to your onboard account.

Disney Cruise Line

BYOB Policy

  • Disney Cruise Line Guests 21 years and older may bring a maximum of 2 bottles of unopened wine or champagne (no larger than 750 ml) or 6 beers (no larger than 12 ounces) on board at the beginning of the voyage and at each port of call. These beverages must be packed in carry-on (not checked) bags or luggage.

  • Any alcohol packed in checked luggage will be removed and stored until the end of the cruise.

  • All alcohol brought onboard must be in an original unopened container. Partially used bottles and those in which the seal has been broken will be destroyed and no compensation will be offered.

  • Any wine or champagne in excess of 2 bottles or beer in excess of 6 beers will be stored until the end of the cruise.

  • Bringing liquors and spirits (including powdered alcohol) on board is prohibited. These items will be stored until the end of the cruise.

  • Guest MUST retrieve any stored alcohol at the end of the cruise. Items not retrieved will be destroyed and no compensation will be offered.

  • Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area.

  • If consuming in public space then corkage fees for wine & champagne of $25 per bottle apply. ​

Fred Olsen

BYOB Policy

  • Fred. Olsen does not permit guests to bring their own alcohol on board for consumption.

  • Any alcohol purchased shoreside during a cruise must be handed to the ship's security staff for safe storage. It will be then returned to guests at the end of their cruise.

Holland America Line

BYOB Policy

  • Each guest 21 years and older may bring one bottle of wine or champagne (no larger than 750ml) onboard in carry-on luggage at the beginning of the voyage.

  • This bottle will not be subject to a corkage fee if consumed in the stateroom.

  • Additional wine or champagne bottles (no larger than 750ml) in carry-on luggage are welcome, but will incur a US$18.00 (subject to change) corkage fee each, irrespective of where they are intended to be consumed.

  • Guests are not allowed to bring beer, boxed wine, or other liquors and spirits onboard.

  • Holland America Line reserves the right to remove all alcoholic beverages from any guest luggage that violates this policy.

  • Any alcoholic beverage found will be removed and returned on the last evening of the voyage. Guests will not receive any monetary compensation for alcoholic beverages that were removed from luggage.

  • Wine and champagne bottles (no larger than 750ml) purchased in ports of call are welcome to be brought onboard subject to a US$18.00 (subject to change) corkage fee each, irrespective of where they are intended to be consumed. Alternatively guests can choose to have these bottles stored and returned on the last evening of the voyage at no charge.

  • All other alcoholic beverages that are purchased in ports of calls as well as all alcoholic beverages purchased from onboard shops will be stored and returned on the last evening of the voyage at no charge.

  • If consuming in public space then corkage fees for wine & champagne of $18 per bottle apply. ​

    • NB: a second bottle will also be charged a corkage fee of $18 even if consumed in stateroom​

MSC Cruises

BYOB Policy

  • Passengers are not permitted to bring onboard any Alcoholic drinks, including wines, spirits, beer or other liqueurs for use during the voyage, whether for consumption in their own cabins or otherwise

Norwegian Cruise Line

BYOB Policy

  • Please note that with the exception of Wine and Champagne, all guests are prohibited from bringing alcohol on board our ships. If you purchase any alcohol at one of our ports-of-call or in our onboard shops, we will safely store your purchase(s) and either on the final night of the cruise or the morning of debarkation it will be available for pick up in a designated area.

  • Guests may bring bottles of wine and champagne on board. When bottles are brought on board and served or consumed in any restaurant, public room area or in their stateroom, a corkage fee will be charged according to bottle sizes.

  • Wine or champagne sent directly to the ship by travel agents, friends, family, etc. or from another retail source, are subject to the same fees.

  • Box wines are not allowed on board.

  • NB: Non alcoholic beverages are also not permitted onboard the ship in ports of call and any locally-purchased beverages will be disposed of prior to embarkation. No open containers of beverages, including water, will be allowed onboard during a port of call.

P&O Cruises

BYOB Policy

  • Each guest aged 18 years (21 years in US ports and the United Arab Emirates) and older may bring one litre of the following; wine, Champagne, beer, spirit or liqueur on board as they embark the ship for the first time only. Alcohol over the 1 litre limit will be stored and returned to the guest prior to the end of the cruise.

  • ‭Any alcoholic beverages purchased mid-cruise in ports of call cannot be consumed on board. Guests will need to declare and ‭hand over any alcohol bought in port at the gangway. It will be stored and returned to the guest ‭prior to the end of the cruise, at no charge.

  • ‭‭If a bottle of wine/Champagne has been bought for a guest through P&O Cruises gifts, guests will ‭need to ensure they carry the gift card with them to avoid having the corkage charge applied to their ‭on-board account.

  • ‭‭On eligible cruises, guests are welcome to buy duty free alcohol to take home via the on-board ‭shops. It will be stored until the end of their cruise.

Corkage Fees

  • If this alcohol is consumed in the dining rooms, bars, restaurants, pool or lounge areas, it will be subject to a corkage fee of £20* per bottle, per occasion which will be charged to the guest's on-board account. 

Regent Seven Seas

BYOB Policy

  • On embarkation day, you are permitted to bring unsealed and unopened bottles of wine or champagne to be enjoyed onboard.

  • Alcohol purchased in ports-of-call may be stored and consumed in your suite.

Princess Cruises

BYOB Policy

  • As provided in the Passage Contract, guests agree not to bring alcoholic beverages of any kind onboard for consumption, except one bottle of wine or champagne per adult of drinking age (no larger than 750 ml) per voyage, which will not be subject to a corkage fee if consumed in the stateroom.

  • Additional wine or champagne bottles are welcome, but will incur a $15 corkage fee each, irrespective of where they are intended to be consumed. Liquor, spirits or beers are not permitted.

  • Please remember that luggage will be scanned and alcohol outside of our policy will be removed and discarded.*

  • Alcoholic beverages that are purchased duty free from the ship's gift shop, or at ports of call, will be collected for safekeeping and delivered to the guest's stateroom on the last day of the cruise.  A member of the ship's staff will be at the gangway to assist guests with the storage of their shoreside alcoholic purchases while our Boutiques staff will assist guests with shipboard alcoholic purchases.

  • Guests wishing to bring personal wine and champagne onboard may do so only on boarding day, limited to two (2) 750 ml bottles per stateroom. No beer or hard liquor may be brought onboard for consumption.

  • ​Additional bottles of wine beyond two (2) bottles that are brought onboard or any alcoholic beverages purchased in ports of call or from onboard shops during the cruise vacation will be stored onboard and delivered to guest staterooms on the last day of the sailing.

  • Guests who consume their personal wine and champagne in public areas, will incur a $15 corkage fee per bottle.

Silversea

  • On your flight and once onboard our ships, you can only drink the alcohol that staff serve you. During embarkation, Marella have the right to search luggage and hold any alcohol that they believe has not been purchased on the flight - please retain your proof of purchase.

  • Guests may bring alcohol and beverages with them, purchase alcohol ashore at destinations that sell alcohol, or they may purchase from the onboard shop.
